HAMPTON - The Friends of the Lane Library held its first Sweetheart Tea on Saturday to celebrate Valentine’s Day and to help draw attention - and new members - to the group.

"I told you the party would be scrumptious," said Bryce Libby, as he dove into a plate of cookies, tea sandwiches, tarts and brownies.

The idea came from Arlena Batchelder, a newer member of the Friends group.

"I was trying to come up with different ways to draw in new families, and this seemed like a really neat way to do it," said Batchelder.

Linda Libby, president of the Friends, added that families were really the key.

"It really is a family-based group, and that’s what we were hoping for when we planned this tea," she said.

"With more members, we can look forward to other kinds of activities like reading programs, arts and crafts, and movie nights, complete with kids in their pj’s."

The Friends group has an active membership, but the fee of $10 for individuals and $15 for families is what will help grow the group in those different directions.

A SWEET TIME FOR ALL - The Friends of the Lane Memorial Library held a Sweetheart Tea on Saturday, February 12, in perfect time for this year's observance of Valentine's Day. The free program brought boys and girls from Hampton together with their parents, grandparents and guardians for two fun-filled seatings in the Lane Room. Participants created crafts, listened to stories read by Children's Librarian Cindy Stosse, and enjoyed treats and a sweet time with one another. The Friends also raffled off a beautiful basket of Valentine items. For more information about membership opportunities with the Friends of the Lane Memorial Library, call (603) 926-3368.
