HAMPTON -- Marianne Hodkins Jewell, 71, of Hampton, died Feb. 7, 1997, at Blue Hills Health Care, Kansas City, Mo.
She was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of the late Harley and Henrietta (Trusdell) Hodkins. She resided in Little Rock, Ark., Allentown, Pa., Morristown, N.J., Lompoc, Calif., Falls Church, Va.. Kwaialein, Marshall Islands and Hampton.
She attended the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Mrs. Jewell was a member of the public relations staff at Drew University for five years and was a feature writer and columnist for the Hampton Union for eight years.
She was the author of "Dublin From Saddlebags to Satellites" and "Our Methodist Heritage in Lompoc." She was published in Images: Women in Transition," and edited four cookbooks.
She was a member of the National Federation of Press Women; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Friends of Art of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City; and the Daughters of Old Westport.
Mrs. Jewell was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church; district conference and jurisdiction officer and chairman of the United Methodist Women and the Church.
She was president of the Friends of Lane Memorial Library and of the Association of New Hampshire Library Friends, 1984-86; an officer of the Hampton Monday Club; a member of the Morristown Women's Club; and chairman of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, New Hampshire Department.
She served on the Hampton Recreation Advisory Council for five years and the United Campus Ministry Board at the University of New Hampshire.
She was the wife of the late Arthur Jewell.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. in Hampton United Methodist Church.
