HAMPTON -- George E. Hosker, 77, of Hampton and Reddington Shores, Fla., died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the Woodside Hospice House in Pinellas, Fla.

He was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Winthrop, Mass., the son of the late George E. and Annie V. (McDonald) Hosker and had resided in Hampton for 40 years.

Mr. Hosker was the manager of the residential dormitory, Next House, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Crouch) Hosker of Reddington Shores; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan H. and Frank Swift of Stratham, Kathleen and Gregg Miles of Hampton and Tracey Hosker of Marietta, Ga.; two sons, George Hosker and his partner Michael Bouley of Lawrence, Mass., and Scott Hosker of Atlanta; four granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 53 years, Gloria H. (Gilbert) Hosker who died in 2005; one brother, Donald Hosker; and one sister, Evelyn Withee.

WE REMEMBER: He attended Winthrop schools and was a graduate of Fisher Junior College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, joining at 17, and serving as a chief petty officer.

He served aboard the USS Coral Sea, USS Salute, USS Frontier, USS Vandivier, USS McKinley and USS Columbus.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

While at MIT, he was awarded the James N. Murphy award in 1993 and the student lounge at the Next House was named after him.

He was a member of the Exeter Veterans of Foreign Wars, the USS Coral Sea and USS Columbus associations.

SERVICES: Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
