Free tax assistance at the library, beginning in February

VITA hoursDo you need some help filling out your tax returns this year? Beginning in February you can come to the library and get the help you need from volunteers. Once again, the AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation in cooperation with the IRS.

You do not have to be a senior citizen or a member of AARP to take advantage of this service.

Having last year’s (2012) tax return and all of this year’s (2013) tax related information such as W-2’s, Social Security Account numbers, property and personal tax records, Social Security Income, medical expenses and interest and dividend statements will make the process go more smoothly. A picture ID must also be presented. You must bring your checking or savings account number and bank routing information to have a refund deposited directly to your account.

State returns for Massachusetts, Maine and other states can be completed and filed in conjunction with your federal return.

They meet downstairs in the Dorothy Little meeting room. Dates and times are on the schedule at left.
