Children's Room Summer Reading Program
Children's Room Summer Reading Program Party Thursday, August 14 from 5 - 8 PM
To celebrate the HUGE success of this year's Summer Reading Programs (Kids, Teens and Adults!) we are going to have an outdoor party, held on the field behind Centre School on Thursday, August 14 from 5-8 pm. We will have live music, games, face-painting and more! We will feature music for kids by the Steve Blunt Band at 5:30 PM, and a special hour-long concert by the popular band Wellfleet at 7 PM for adults. Around 6:30 we will have our raffle for participants of our Children's Summer Reading Program (including 4 Kindle Fires and 4 "Author Book Pails").
Children who signed up for our Summer Reading Program will be treated to 2 free pizza slices from Flatbread Company (this pizza will be delivered directly to the party and handed out there). If parents would like more pizza for the rest of their family they should call Flatbread at 926-6111 and place an order and then pick it up at Flatbread on August 7th before you arrive at the party. Be sure to tell them that the order is for the Lane Library Summer Reading Party so that the Friends of the Library will receive the appropriate benefit.
Also, as a last minute addition, we're excited to have the Kona Hawaiian Shave Ice Truck at the event. They will be selling yummy shaved ice! Kona Ice is Hawaiian Style Shave ice with amazing flavors like Blue Raspberry, Root Beer, Pina Colada and many more!
If you're planning to attend, please give us a call and sign up so we'll have an idea of how many people to expect (926-4729). Feel free to bring a blanket or chairs and pack a picnic, since the party will be right at dinner time!
Additional info: Summer reading logs are due on Wednesday, Aug. 6 by Noon. If you're interested in helping out with the party we are accepting donations of of bottled water. Please call the Children's Room at 926-4729 or email Wendy at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to make a donation.
How the Reading Program Works:
Kids from age 3 through those that are going into 6th grade may participate in our Summer Reading Program. Children keep a log of the time that they read (or are read to). The reading logs are available in the Children's Room and online during the course of the program.
- Each child receives one free book upon signup. Please stop by the Children's Room to pick yours out!!
- For every hour logged, the child earns a raffle ticket for our summer finale drawing (we are raffling off 4 Kindle Fires for our "Independent Readers"!).
- For every 2 hours logged, they will receive a paper decoration to add to our summer wall display.
- When a child has read 3 hours, they can claim a mini prize from our treasure box.
All logs and raffle tickets must be completed and turned in by 12 pm, Wednesday, August 6 (the day before the Summer Reading Grand Finale Party) in order to be eligible for the drawing. The drawing is held at our Summer Reading Program Grand Finale Party.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF OUR EVENTS REQUIRE SIGNUPS. THESE EVENTS ARE NOTED ON THE CALENDAR AND THE WEBSITE. CALL THE CHILDREN'S ROOM (926-4729) TO SIGN UP.
