"Harvesting Hope for the Holidays" Jazz Concert 11/28

TJ Wheeler and Ayan Imai-HallOn Monday, November 28th at 6:30 PM the library will welcome back jazz guitarist TJ Wheeler and tap / percussionist Ayan Imai-Hall for a special concert to benefit both the Hampton Food Pantry and the Haitian victims of Hurricane Matthew.  According to Tj, the concert is a perfect segue from giving thanks to creating hope and joy for those in need.  After all, sometimes even Santa needs just a little bit of help …

Musician / Activist Tj Wheeler will bring his own bag of treats to the library in the form of Blues and Jazzified Holiday classics as well as his favorite non-holiday songs that are still very poignant for this time of year.  He will again be joined by virtuoso tap dancer Ayan Imai-Hall, marking their 10th anniversary of working together. They met when at age 12 and already an accomplished dancer, Ayan joined an inter-generational Jazz / Blues ensemble class directed by Tj.  Since then they have performed at the White Mountain Blues & Boogie Festival, several MLK holiday events and Portsmouth's First Night celebrations. They were a featured act at Market Square Day, and were also recipients of a year-long Traditional Arts Membership grant from the NH State Council on the Arts.

Harvesting Hope for the Holidays is a free concert sponsored by the Lane Memorial Library and is open to all with music suitable for all ages.  Last year was 'standing room only', so we advise coming a bit early to get a good seat!

The concert will be downstairs in the Lane Room, with a collection area in the back reserved for those who wish to donate non-perishable goods and toiletries to the Hampton Food Pantry.  A collection box will also be available for monetary donations to Tj's chosen charity "Feed My Starving Children", which delivers meals directly to those in need after natural disasters.  More information about the charity is available on the website Charity Navigator, with a specific page about relief efforts after Hurricane Matthew here.
